Dining Room Makeover Reveal – My Home Refresh

It’s REVEAL TIME once again! I’ve given you a glimpse into the dining room makeover when I showed you our new home redesign color palette. But now it’s time to take a closer look at the dramatic transformation that’s taken place in this space over the past year.

OUR DINING ROOM MAKEOVER

Before we dive into those pretty reveal photos, let’s review where we started a year ago. The dining room is one of the first rooms we painted when we first moved into our new construction home. This is how it looked for the first decade:

Don’t get me wrong; I was happy with the high drama red and formal dining set (which was a vestige of our life in High Point NC–the Furniture Capital of the World) for many years. As I described in my Home Office Reveal, my decor tastes have evolved in the past few years. Now I’m drawn to the contemporary, clean-lined, light and airy look. But over time, this room just no longer reflected my style.

So with the swish of the paint brush and the purchase of some new furniture and accessories, may I present the new and improved version!

Oh my goodness does this space make me happy now!

Here’s the view from the home office into the dining room. Did I paint the ceiling blue? Why yes. Yes I did.

So let me take you on a little tour and talk about what we did to transform this room.

In keeping with our home color palette plan, we painted the walls using Benjamin Moore’s Sweet Spring and the ceiling using Sherwin Williams Riverway. I love love love these paint colors! Doe the ceiling color look familiar? That’s because it’s the same color I used on the back of the home office built-ins.

When we purchased a new kitchen table, we moved the existing table into the dining room (where I envisioned it ultimately living when we purchased it several years back) and inserted the extra table leaf. I love this table just as much today as whenI purchased it 5 years ago!

We purchased new side chairs and upholstered chairs.

We kept the console table, lamps and art work, but gave the family photo area a bit of a facelift with some new inexpensive photo frames (and painted out a few with spray paint). I did swap out the lamp shades with these beauties that I found in the clearance aisle at Target (what is it with my Target lampshade obsession?)

I fell in love with this set of radial mirrors and purchased 3 of them to line the focal wall.

We removed the dated cornice window treatment and installed new drapery poles/finials and these fantabulous curtain panels that add just the perfect color pop to the space.

Here you can see how the blue on the ceiling carries into the home office on the built-in wall. It’s so much fun to use color in unexpected places!

We purchased this gorgeous chandelier from Ballard Designs about 5 years ago. That baby is here to stay. Timeless beauty, don’t you think?

At the time I’m publishing this reveal, it’s winter and the winter decor is in full force around here.

  3. Very pretty. Such a light and fresh look. I love the blue and green colors, and for some reason (I don’t know why) I think the utensil art panels look better in the new horizontal arrangement. 🙂 Great job.

    1. Thank you so much Suzy…I’m glad you like it! Yes, I totally agree about the art panels. I think they were meant to be displayed in that orientation 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Mary! Yes, having the walls go neutral and putting the drama “focal wall” on the ceiling is a bit of the unexpected that I just love so much.
