We moved last spring. I wrote a whole series on home selling tips following the move. Scroll to the end of the post to get the links to the various posts in this series!
If you’re a regular blog reader, you may have noticed that I’ve kind of gone radio silent. I haven’t posted in awhile on any of my platforms, and a few of you have reached out to ask if all is o.k.
So here’s the MAJOR news — we’re in the process of moving!
We’ve been contemplating a move for over a year in order to shorten my husband’s commute. We finally took the plunge in late November, purchasing a home 30 minutes north from where we currently live.
An added bonus is that it’s in the city where my son’s USA swim club is based, so it dramatically reduces the amount of time I’ll need to serve as Mom-Uber.
Here’s a peek at the new digs:

{the day we took possession in December}
We closed on the new home in mid-December, which proved to be the most insane month of my life.
In addition to the regular holiday-related chaos, we were navigating the jam-packed schedule that goes along with the height of the high school (daughter) and age-group (son) swim seasons.
On top of all that, I began managing several home improvement projects in both our current home (to get it ready to sell) and in our new home. We figured that painting, installing new carpeting, and refinishing wood floors in the new house would be SO MUCH easier to tackle in its currently vacant state (we won’t be moving in until we close on the current home).
In December, we were blessed with unseasonably mild weather AND my husband’s mandatory 2-week vacation from work. This gave us a golden opportunity to pack and move the majority of our garage and outdoor items. We also completed a massive purge in our basement storage space before it was time for my husband to return to work.
Needless to say, it was a different kind of holiday season for our family this year!
The next step in the process was prepping our current home to go on the market, which happened on January 10th. After a flurry of showings and an open house over the course of 3 days, we received multiple offers and are currently under contract awaiting home inspections.
It’s been a whirlwind!
I’m exhausted, but excited for this new chapter in our lives.
The last time we moved was 14 years ago. It’s been so long, that I had forgotten how stressful and overwhelming the entire process can be.
Even the most organized person can be thrown into a tailspin!
I’ve wanted so much to share tips and tricks that have helped me to maintain my sanity as we navigate this whole process, but with all the packing, cleaning, decluttering, and moving, there just hasn’t been time to debrief with you about it.
After the dust settles from our move, I’ll be rolling out a new blog series designed to help those of you who have a move in your future. I have SO MUCH to share about every aspect of the home-buying and selling process and can’t wait to dive in!
